Shotgun No Blitz is a punk act from the Lebanon area just cutting their teeth on the Philly music scene. Their sound is reminiscent of Grandview or Saves the Day but they have a nice mix of a pop/indie. They have recently released a raucous new LP entitled Letters to Myself through Painted Ox Records (Run For It).
Letters to Myself proves these guys definitely know the formula for a great punk/pop album. Strong vocals, serious drumming, impeccable guitar work, and definite classic punk characteristic to juxtapose heartfelt lyrics with a sprinkling of obscenities.I especially connect with the lyrics of "On My Own". Not gonna lie, I was hoping for a fresh cover of the song from the musical Les Miserables, but I enjoyed it despite my initial disappointment. It's one of those songs where I could picture myself standing right in a sweaty mosh fending off stray fists as I inch closer to the stage, screaming the lyrics along with everyone else at the show.
So for anyone else who is intrigued by their name, I googled it. I assumed it had something to do with calling shotgun when wanting to snag the coveted front seat from your friends. Well, I found out if you don't call "shotgun no blitz", someone can steal the front seat right from under you by yelling Blitz. Yes, I'm confused too. What I did learn is that punk pop is not dead, so go to their shows and download the new tunes.
