Run For It is a local pop-punk band that seems to be getting gigs left and right with recent shoes in Atlantic City and at The Note in West Chester. Originating in Lansdale, these guys are a collection of really great musicians who have all previous done stints with other local bands. Last November, they released a new EP entitled Better Days with 4 original songs on it. Before the new stuff, their previous EPs were No You ain’t, We is and We’ve Got the High Ground. Judging from their older stuff like, No Way Out, Self Titles and Harlot Town, I was excited to give Better Days a listen.
I have to admit, when I began listening to this band, I wasn’t sure it was for me. I was too quick to judge. At first sound, it brought me back to my first few years in high school when I loved going to the YWCA in downtown West Chester to see local punk shows. I didn't fit in there at all, but I liked the music. True, after over ten years, my musical tastes have done a 180 degrees turn. But there is a passion and musicianship here that no one can deny.
The EP starts with the song Avenues which after listening to it, all I wanted was for Guitar Hero Lansdale Edition to be released so I too could play the rhythmic guitar along side the band. The guys have great voices, which is something I don’t usually find myself saying about a punk band. Not only are the harmonies tight, the lead singer, has a really nice quality to his voice which reminds me of Brendan Urie, the lead singer of Panic at the Disco, without the whining.
Alright after listening to the other songs on the album, I take that back. I want Rock Band Lansdale Edition because I love those drums too! For only $5, this EP is a must buy. These guys have great musicality and some great lyrics to back it up. I’m pretty bummed I missed their concert, come back to West Chester, in fact, run for it….
