As a music lover, I find myself searching for albums I can play in my car on loop. There seems to be a void in my soul that can be filled by good music. Free Energy’s newest album “Love Sign” happens to be just what I needed. With a fresh sound, and catchy hooks it has landed a spot on the “Top 25 Most Played” in my iTunes library.
The first time I listened to “Love Sign” was a night I had off. I was up insanely late, and decided to give it a listen. I found myself immediately dancing in my seat. I thought to myself, “I found my summer CD!” That seems to be exactly what this album is, a precursor to summer. The opening number is aptly titled “Electric Fever”, and it leads to only more masterpieces.
I think my favorite song on the album has to be “Backscratcher”. It seems like an updated, more dance driven version of “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac. The lyrics read like the nicest break-up song ever, laced with a twinge of regret and freedom. “Here it comes, the end of the line. You can run away, I’ll be fine. I will survive” seems a poignant line. I have to wonder if perhaps there is a bit of a sarcastic undertone.
Laced with wit, and intelligent lyrics, “Love Sign” is everything I look for in the CDs that I buy, and you can rest assured it is worth the money. Free Energy is definitely a band to keep an eye on. I look forward to more music from them.
