The Drowners have finally released their long teased second album a lengthy two years after their freshman debut and will be promoting it at the ever increasingly gentrified Johny Brenda's on September 26th. The New York based band’s second release, On Desire, came out June 24 via Frenchkiss and was recorded/mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Interpol, Johnny Marr, Neon Indian). The single "Cruel Ways" stays true to what has typically been their sound: jittery indie-pop and catchy guitar riffs. Surprisingly the vocals are more dominating, framing the whole project in a different light. There are dark nooks paired with an attractive vibrancy that keeps pace throughout the album. It also doesn't hurt that lanky, lead singer Matt Hitt happens to be a model for the likes of YSL. Overall the album's decent second inning for a promising band.
