Rookie McFly loved the music in the video game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time so much he almost attributes it as the reason he started rapping; growing up he remembers being inspired not only by Miles Davis and Marvin Gaye, but by something as straightforward as the musical score of the video game. McFly is a local Philly emcee/producer who, in a city that is home to a host of "spitters", stands out with his laid back flow and jazzy undertones. The rapper starting out with no music theory or instrumental skills but he's since graduated into an artist eager to carve out his own niche on the genre. The most exciting news for the local is the pending release of his freshman album F.a.n.T.a.s.Y June 17th. The album boasts inventive concepts layered skillfully with soulful compositions that "embodying the culture, the art, the grittiness and the tenacity ethic our city instills". Rookie McFly may be steeped in jazz and swing beats but he realizes that Philly is a town of tough critics and believes if he can "establish his own sound" here, he can do it anywhere.
